Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Our client designs and manufactures bespoke commercial products and is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Sydney team on a permanent basis. You will be responsible for taking concepts through to production, ensuring high‑quality engineering solutions across a variety of materials.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept designs and detailed 3D CAD models.
• Create and release technical drawings and documentation.
• Manage the full product lifecycle from idea to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Liaise with manufacturing partners and support final assembly.
• Maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and input parts into the MRP system.
• Perform hand calculations, verification, validation, FEA, testing and prototyping.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong theoretical knowledge of core engineering principles and tight tolerances.
• Proven ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and work within budgets.
• Effective both as an individual contributor and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
• Experience working with sheet metal, machined components and injection‑molded plastics.
• Competence in FEA analysis and prototype testing.
• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and BOM entries.
• Familiarity with MRP systems for parts input and inventory management.
