Mechanical Design Engineer – Bulk Materials Handling

About the role

RCR Mining Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team at the Bunbury head office. The role focuses on designing, developing and validating large‑scale bulk material handling equipment for mining and heavy‑industry clients across Australia and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed engineering designs and scopes of work for mechanical plant and equipment.
• Perform and verify analyses using FEA tools (ANSYS, Nastran, Strand7) and first‑principles calculations.
• Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards, client specifications and Safety‑in‑Design principles.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments and constructability workshops.
• Coordinate engineering interfaces with structural and electrical disciplines.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables, respond to technical queries and non‑conformances.
• Support pre‑contract and tender activities with technical input and cost estimates.
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within heavy industry.
• Demonstrated competency in FEA analysis.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
