Marketing and Communications Lead, Australia
ZOE · Brisbane
Job description
About the role
ZOE, a gut health science company behind a science-backed app and a leading nutrition podcast, is expanding into Australia and needs a senior, hands-on Marketing and Communications Lead. This is a 0-to-1 build role: you will own the Australian market entry end to end (about 75% of your time) while collaborating on global brand and science moments (about 25%). It is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports, reporting to the GM of International Growth.
Key responsibilities
- Commercial growth and partnerships: act as the commercial strategist, brief central Lifecycle, Performance and Product teams on pricing, email programs and local acquisition campaigns, and build and run partnership and offline activation plans with health professionals, creators, wellness brands, retailers and industry stakeholders.
- Own local commercial targets and measure impact through brand search volume, web traffic, sign-ups and conversion.
- PR and brand localisation: adapt the science-led story for Australian consumers, set up and run the Australian press office, write and pitch stories, outreach journalists and producers, secure national coverage across print, online, breakfast TV, radio and podcasts, and run product seeding and media events.
- Brief and oversee freelancers or local agencies only when execution at scale is needed.
- Global integration: adapt company-wide science publications, product launches and campaigns for Australia, share Australian market insights and PR playbooks with the UK and US teams, and support spokespeople with briefing documents, opinion pieces, press releases and Q&As.
Required profile
- 5 to 10 years of experience launching or scaling a consumer brand in Australia, ideally in health, wellness, nutrition, food, science or consumer tech.
- Startup operator who has done the work themselves rather than relying on a team or agency roster.
- Proven track record of personally pitching stories and landing national Australian coverage.
- High autonomy, able to work asynchronously across time zones with a UK and US team.
- Native-level English with a sharp ear for Australian tone.
- Nice to have: existing relationships with Australian journalists and producers, working knowledge of Australian health marketing rules (FSANZ, TGA, Australian Consumer Law, Privacy Act, Spam Act), experience in New Zealand or APAC, and experience in a remote, matrix organisation.
What we offer
- Permanent, full-time employment through an Employer of Record (Deel) under Australian employment law, with competitive base salary plus superannuation and equity.
- Remote-first work from home anywhere in Australia, with quarterly team off-sites in London and an annual retreat in the UK or Europe.
- Health cover, mental health and fertility support, life insurance, wellness budget, and the ZOE app and Daily30+.
- Enhanced parental leave, a paid Life Event Day, and a yearly growth budget with support for professional qualifications.
