Manager, Operational Risk (Business & Private Banking)

About the role

This position provides second‑line operational risk oversight for Business & Private Banking at ANZ. It is designed for a developing yet capable risk professional who can perform hands‑on risk work, support targeted reviews, analyse evidence, test controls and produce clear risk outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Support second‑line reviews of risks, controls, incidents, remediation plans and risk acceptances across Business & Private Banking.
• Conduct testing activities: gather populations, select samples, review evidence and document results.
• Analyse control design and operating effectiveness, escalating gaps where controls are unclear, incomplete or not repeatable.
• Review first‑line risk and control assessments, identifying gaps, inconsistencies and unsupported conclusions.
• Use event, complaint, issue and business data to spot themes, trends and emerging risks.
• Prepare concise risk summaries, findings, challenge points and recommendations for senior risk leaders.
• Support issue and remediation oversight, including root‑cause analysis, action design, milestone tracking and closure evidence.
• Build subject‑matter expertise across key Business & Private Banking areas such as products, deposits, wealth, onboarding, servicing, complaints and customer journeys.
• Collaborate with risk, business, operations, product, technology and compliance stakeholders to gather facts and understand end‑to‑end impacts.
• Maintain accurate documentation, audit trails and evidence to support defensible risk opinions.

Required profile

• Experience in operational risk, compliance, audit, assurance, control testing, issue management or related financial‑services risk work.
• Hands‑on experience performing or supporting risk reviews, control testing, sampling, walkthroughs, evidence gathering and finding documentation.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and curiosity to explore risk issues.
