Manager Cyber Defence – Endpoint, Identity & Data Protection

About the role

Join Qantas Group’s Cyber Defence Team as the lead engineer for endpoint, identity and data protection platforms. This permanent, onsite role is based in Sydney or Melbourne and offers a hands‑on engineering focus across a wide portfolio of security technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Shape the 1‑3 year roadmap for security platforms, aligning with the broader cyber strategy and emerging technology opportunities.
• Evaluate, pilot, and deploy new security capabilities, then own their operation, health reporting and continuous improvement.
• Partner with business, technology, vendors and industry peers to govern controls, manage risks and meet regulatory, privacy and PCI DSS obligations.
• Provide the Security Operations Centre with detections and telemetry, and work with Cyber Assurance to evidence controls.

Required profile

• At least seven years of experience in cyber security, information security or technology risk, including hands‑on security engineering.
• Proven track record of taking security technologies from evaluation through production in large, regulated environments such as aviation or finance.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to translate technical risks into business impact.

Required skills

• Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) and Identity Threat Detection & Response (ITDR).
• Network security, secure web gateway, email security and data loss prevention (DLP).
• Cloud security, SaaS security, CSPM and CASB controls (AWS, Microsoft 365).
• Security engineering, SIEM, security governance and cyber‑risk assessment.
• Familiarity with AI‑based detection and response, NIST, ISO 27001, Essential Eight, PCI DSS and relevant certifications (CISSP, CCSP, CISM).
