Maintenance Superintendent – Engineering (MEM)

About the role

The Maintenance Superintendent – Engineering (MEM) will join the maintenance leadership team at Dawson Mine on a 6‑month fixed‑term basis. Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for statutory maintenance and engineering duties and for leading the development of maintenance strategies across the open‑cut coal mine.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic mechanical engineering initiatives aligned with the Engineering and Maintenance Strategy.
• Act as the Statutory Mechanical Engineer, ensuring compliance with SHMS obligations, recognised standards and legislation.
• Approve mechanical inputs into Life‑of‑Mine equipment strategies, asset capability assessments and risk‑based maintenance plans.
• Govern implementation of mechanical maintenance procedures, training and component rebuild standards.
• Provide technical governance for major shutdown scopes and ensure statutory inspection and compliance obligations are incorporated.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering (or Master of Engineering Management) and a practising certificate for Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM) or working towards it.
• Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1‑S3, G2‑G3) and RPEQ accreditation (desirable).
• Demonstrated senior leadership experience in a mining environment, preferably coal.
• Project management experience on a mine site, including independent project delivery.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• OEM expertise with CAT and Komatsu equipment.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology.
