Maintenance Leading Hand - Goonyella

About the role

BUMA Australia is seeking an experienced Maintenance Leading Hand to join its maintenance team at Goonyella Riverside Mine, in the Bowen Basin of Central Queensland. This hands-on leadership position works closely with the Maintenance Superintendents and the wider maintenance team to support safe, quality maintenance outcomes through day-to-day leadership, work planning and practical technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible, hands-on leadership to trades and service personnel
• Support daily work planning, prioritisation and task allocation
• Assist with maintenance activities and give technical advice on repairs
• Coordinate labour, parts and materials for scheduled work
• Promote a strong safety culture through inspections, observations and hazard reporting
• Keep tools, equipment and work areas to a safe standard
• Communicate work scopes, timeframes and quality expectations clearly
• Ensure inspections, repairs, work orders and records are completed accurately
• Coordinate subcontract employees and cover Supervisor leave when required
• Build relationships across the team and with the client, and contribute to continuous improvement

• Technically capable, approachable and willing to lead from the front
• Comfortable working alongside the crew while keeping sight of the bigger picture
• Demonstrated ability to lead, support and coordinate tradespeople
• Proactive, uncompromising approach to safety
• Team-first attitude and willingness to assist wherever required

Required skills

• Strong maintenance and technical knowledge in a mining or heavy industry environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships
• Sound planning, prioritisation and problem-solving skills
• Practical technical guidance and support to the team
• Understanding of safe maintenance practices and accurate work documentation
