Locum Dental Hygienist - Belconnen

About the role

A respected dental healthcare provider in Belconnen, Canberra, is seeking an experienced locum dental hygienist to deliver preventive dental care. The role suits a self-sufficient hygienist comfortable working without dedicated dental assistant support, taking ownership of their treatment room and daily workflow. It starts at approximately 2 days per week, preferably Tuesday and Wednesday, though Tuesday and Thursday or Wednesday and Thursday can also be arranged.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver professional scaling, polishing and periodontal treatments
• Assess patients' oral hygiene and periodontal health
• Provide preventive oral healthcare and tailored treatment advice
• Educate patients about gum disease prevention and oral hygiene practices
• Manage treatment preparation, clinical instruments and room turnaround
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and infection control protocols

Required profile

• Current AHPRA registration as a Dental Hygienist
• Demonstrated experience providing dental hygiene treatments
• Ability to work confidently without a dental assistant
• Strong clinical judgement and ability to manage appointments independently
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• Professional communication and a patient-centred approach
• Availability for 2 days per week
