Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology Apprentice (School-Based)

About the role

Golden West Apprenticeships is recruiting a school-based Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology Apprentice in Toowoomba. The 96-month apprenticeship combines on-the-job experience with an employer and training with a registered training organisation, leading to a nationally recognised qualification. The closing date is 27 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair problems in cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, aircraft and heavy equipment
• Read and interpret diagrams and schematics to understand how vehicle components interact
• Develop problem-solving skills to identify faults and choose the best way to repair them
• Discuss problems with drivers or vehicle operators to find faults
• Listen to engines, fit and operate special test equipment and test-drive vehicles
• Repair or replace worn or faulty parts, including removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions and differentials

Required profile

• A willingness to develop skills and knowledge
• Ability to listen, follow instructions and ask for help when needed
• Punctuality, interest in the work and adherence to workplace policies and procedures
• Responsible and safe behaviour in the workplace
• Ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and the Golden West Apprenticeships team
• Ability to complete timesheets correctly and on time
• Driver's licence or close to obtaining one
• Desirable: work experience in the chosen industry

• Perform work satisfactorily and complete the Training Plan within the allocated timeframe, using theory-based and competency-based assessments
