Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

The Living Company, a vertically integrated living platform founded in 2013 and managing $18B in assets across student living, affordable housing and retirement living, is hiring a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel for its People & Legal team in Sydney CBD. You will give timely, effective and strategic advice on corporate and real estate transactions, fund and investment matters, compliance, construction, disputes, debt and equity, workplace relations and privacy and data governance. The role is full-time and on-site, five days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Drafting, reviewing and advising on commercial contracts and other legal documentation
• Leading legal workstreams across acquisitions, disposals and development transactions from origination to completion
• Managing correspondence and building relationships with external legal providers, authorities and government partners
• Identifying, communicating and escalating significant legal risks and working with stakeholders on solutions
• Contributing to internal governance policies and operating procedures

Required profile

• Law degree and a current Australian Practising Certificate
• 5-9 years' post-admission experience, including at least 1-2 years as in-house Legal Counsel; the role suits both Legal Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel levels
• Post-qualification experience in areas such as commercial contracts, corporations law, funds management, real estate and development law, construction law, IP, employment law, litigation and privacy/data governance
• Proven ability to advise strategically on complex legal and regulatory matters
• Strong stakeholder management and commercial judgment
