Legal Counsel – Banking

About the role

This hands‑on Legal Counsel position offers genuine variety across banking operations, technology, regulation and strategic projects. You will work within a supportive, high‑performing in‑house legal team, partnering with senior business stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, solutions‑focused advice.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on banking operations, product development and regulatory obligations.
• Draft and review customer contracts, terms and conditions.
• Support complaints, disputes, litigation, regulatory engagement and operational integration while promoting a strong risk and compliance culture.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external advisers to deliver commercially focused solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
• Contribute to legal team initiatives, optimisation and uplift to enhance the function’s operations and profile.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience in retail banking, either in‑house or private practice.
• Admitted to practise as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction with a current practising certificate.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
• Strong analytical, technical legal and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice.
• Well‑organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities.
