Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering

About the role

James Cook University seeks a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering to strengthen teaching, research and industry engagement, focusing on sustainable infrastructure in tropical and regional communities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Civil Engineering and related disciplines.
• Develop and lead a research programme addressing challenges relevant to Northern Australia and the tropics.
• Secure research and consulting income through industry, government and competitive funding.
• Supervise Honours, Masters and Higher Degree Research students.
• Collaborate with industry partners across mining, critical minerals, sustainable infrastructure and emerging technologies.

Required profile

• PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Expertise in Geotechnical Engineering or related areas such as soil mechanics, rock mechanics, mining or sustainable infrastructure.
• Proven or emerging research record demonstrated through publications.
• Ability to attract research funding and build industry partnerships.
• Commitment to high‑quality teaching and student success.
