Leading Hand - Piggery

About the role

JBS Pork Australia, part of the global JBS business, is recruiting a Leading Hand for its Farming Team to support the team at its Victorian Contracting sites. The role coordinates routine work activities and provides effective leadership, with a medical (including a drug screen) as part of the recruitment process.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day tasks of piggery employees.
• Undertake animal husbandry duties.
• Collect and collate production data and prepare reports.
• Assist with coordinating maintenance tasks.
• Coordinate the movement of livestock between sites and to market.
• Manage workload in line with staffing levels, environmental factors and weather conditions.
• Provide on-the-job training for employees.
• Ensure production follows APIQ standards and other JBS Pork Australia standards, and that animal welfare standards are met at all times.
• Contribute to key business activities as required and ensure employees follow company policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Sound understanding of holistic pig production from practical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise people effectively.
• Willingness to work flexible hours.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of WHS, quality assurance and people and culture procedures.
• Sound knowledge of animal welfare regulations.
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Current driver's licence.
