Leading Hand Operator - Material Recycling Facility

About the role

Veolia's Material Recycling Facility in Spreyton, Tasmania, is looking for a Leading Hand Operator. You will help coordinate the day-to-day operations of the site while upholding safety, environmental and customer standards. This is a permanent full-time opportunity in a supportive team environment, with the chance to grow your career within a secure waste industry.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and support the team, including staff induction, performance monitoring and constructive feedback.
• Manage work priorities based on daily instructions, completing scheduled tasks on time in line with Veolia policies, procedures and productivity KPIs.
• Maintain equipment and machinery in safe working order, checking regularly and coordinating maintenance in line with Veolia guidelines and VES standards.
• Champion a strong safety culture through Take 5s, JSEAs, SWMSs and hazard identification, and keep the work area clean, organised and safe.
• Foster communication across the team and with external stakeholders, facilitate regular meetings and resolve issues with the supervisor or operations manager.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements without compromising safety or quality.

Required profile

• Excellent communication skills.
• Full driver's licence.
• Forklift licence.
• Working knowledge of WHA and EPA legislation and regulations.
• Shortlisted candidates must be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical check including drug and alcohol screening, and a National Police clearance.

Desirable

• Front end loader ticket.
• First aid certification.
