Lead Psychiatrist - Inpatient Mental Health Unit

About the role

Albury Wodonga Health is seeking a Lead Psychiatrist / Staff Specialist to join the Inpatient Unit at Nolan House, a 24-bed locked unit with three intensive care beds providing acute, multidisciplinary treatment for people with acute mental health issues who cannot be treated in the community. The role is full-time and onsite, with salary and terms in line with the relevant state EBA or Award.

Key responsibilities

• Support the clinical services team and supervise, lead, support and direct the multidisciplinary team of the Inpatient Unit.
• Ensure continuity of care and promote effective admission, discharge and case management practices.
• Contribute to clinical teaching and provide specialist supervision to registrars, junior medical officers and psychiatrists, and teach students from other disciplines as negotiated.
• Work with the Medical Director, Nurse Unit Manager and Associate Nurse Unit Managers to deliver high-quality, safe mental health services.
• Take part in clinical team meetings and share a weekend and on-call roster with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service workforce.

Required profile

• Registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
• Experience providing direct clinical care for adults and youth in community and acute inpatient mental health services.
• Experience in clinical supervision of other health professionals.
• Understanding of contemporary mental health service provision in Australia and of the Mental Health Act 2022.
• Accredited in Victoria to perform ECT, or willing to achieve accreditation.
• Willingness to work a shared weekday and weekend on-call roster.
