Lead Estimator

About the role

KBR is seeking a senior Lead Estimator to own estimating for a major resources and mining project in South Australia, covering copper processing, mineral handling, mine infrastructure and process plant construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the estimating function across all project scopes, ensuring consistency, accuracy and strategic alignment.
• Validate contractor cost estimates, methodology, risk, opportunity and schedule against client and regulatory requirements.
• Provide expert recommendations on contractor awards, cost adjustments and value assurance outcomes.
• Manage estimating workflows, resource allocation and approvals across multiple project phases.
• Develop and review cost estimates from Class 5 to Class 2 and prepare Basis of Estimates documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience estimating for resources, mining or minerals processing projects, preferably in a lead or senior capacity.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior estimators and coordinate cross‑functional teams.
• Deep understanding of copper and mineral processing, mine infrastructure and process plant construction.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑influence abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with estimating software.
• Knowledge of AACEI cost classification (Class 5 to Class 2).
• Familiarity with risk management, cost assurance and value‑for‑money principles in capital projects.
