Lead Engineer - API First Services & Automation

About the role

Macquarie's technology team builds solutions that support people and culture across employment, people experience, recruitment, learning and development and talent management, working across Australia, India and the Philippines. As a Lead Engineer you will help build API-first services and event-driven architecture focused on scale, security and robustness, and design and implement thoroughly tested products with a world-class user experience.

Key responsibilities

• Build and deliver API-first services and event-driven solutions with a focus on scalability, security and resilience.
• Design and develop high-quality, thoroughly tested applications that deliver exceptional user experiences.
• Partner with business partners to transform their processes through automation and by bringing Agentic AI capabilities into the forefront.
• Uplift the development experience with a strong focus on CI/CD and other XP practices such as TDD, pair programming and code refactoring.
• Contribute to the evolution of platform design, tooling and the platform architecture.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading or contributing to large-scale technology transformation initiatives, process optimisation and automation.
• Experience driving the adoption of modern engineering practices.

Required skills

• Strong experience with Java, Node.js and container technologies such as Docker.
• Hands-on expertise with cloud platforms including AWS, and familiarity with Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in testing frameworks, tools and practices.
• Knowledge of database design and performance tuning, including SQL, with exposure to large-scale data platforms.
