Lead DevOps Engineer

About the role

Innova Search is recruiting, on behalf of a well-established Australian SaaS scaleup, an experienced Lead DevOps Engineer. The candidate owns the AWS platform end to end and leads the DevOps function while staying hands-on. The role suits someone with an infrastructure or networking background who has worked in a fast-paced SaaS scaleup or startup.

Key responsibilities

• Own the AWS platform: compute, networking, storage and IAM across a containerised estate on ECS, including how it runs and its cost.
• Own the infrastructure-as-code Terraform codebase: modules, state and multiple environments, kept clean as the team grows.
• Own releases: CI/CD from merge to production with staged rollouts, working rollback and a clear link from build number to running code.
• Own observability and SLOs: instrumentation standards, dashboards and service level objectives agreed with the engineers owning each service.
• Own reliability and security: incident response and postmortems, the on-call rotation, and network-level security such as segmentation, access control and acting on penetration test findings.

Required profile

• Experience in a fast-paced SaaS product firm.
• Infrastructure and networking background, having built and run systems yourself.
• Several years running production infrastructure on AWS with real on-call experience.
• Containers in production at scale, on ECS or a close equivalent.
• Strong Terraform across a multi-environment codebase, including state and drift at scale.
• End-to-end ownership of CI/CD pipelines; the current pipeline runs on Jenkins, with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar carrying over.
• Practical observability work, including instrumenting applications.
• Solid Linux and networking fundamentals, and the security judgement to anticipate what a penetration test will find.
