Lead Data Engineer (Snowflake, dbt) - 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

About the role

The Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) team, part of CBA's Group Risk Function, is looking for a Lead Data Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role supports ASB with data engineering for Transaction Monitoring and broader financial crime initiatives, acting as both a senior hands-on engineer and the technical and people lead for a small team of 3-4 data engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy and support data engineering solutions, and contribute directly to the codebase
• Lead and coach a small team of data engineers, analysts and QAs, including code review and solution design reviews
• Build and optimise production-grade data pipelines, transformations and integration solutions
• Write high-quality SQL and dbt code, and set engineering standards for coding, testing, documentation, source control, deployment and monitoring
• Translate business and financial crime requirements into practical, secure and scalable solutions
• Work with stakeholders across ASB, FCC Australia and New Zealand and technology teams

Required profile

• Experienced senior or lead data engineer who is hands-on and can lead a team
• Recent hands-on experience building and supporting production data pipelines
• Experience providing technical leadership, including code review and engineering standards
• Experience with cloud and on-premises integration patterns; Oracle experience is advantageous
• Experience in financial services, Financial Crime or Transaction Monitoring is advantageous but not essential

Required skills

• Advanced SQL and strong experience with cloud data platforms, ideally Snowflake
• Hands-on dbt experience (transformations, models, tests, reusable components)
• Git/source control, CI/CD, automated testing, deployment and production support
• Data quality, reconciliation, load assurance and monitoring
• IBM StreamSets or similar data movement tools; exposure to Oracle is advantageous
