Lead Data Engineer – GCP, BigQuery & dbt

About the role

You will lead the design and delivery of GCP‑native data platforms, shaping cloud data warehouses, ELT pipelines and analytics solutions that are reliable, scalable and easy for teams to use.

Key responsibilities

• Make key architecture decisions, set dbt standards, and create reusable models.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams on SQL, data modelling, governance, security, performance and cost optimisation on Google Cloud.
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to drive best practices across data architecture, platform automation, DevOps, CI/CD and advanced analytics.
• Coach, develop and inspire team members, setting high standards for delivery excellence.
• Collaborate with practice and alliance leaders to grow Deloitte’s data and AI capabilities and contribute to new IP and solutions.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in data architecture, engineering or cloud data platform design.
• Proven experience delivering enterprise‑scale GCP data solutions.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
• Relevant Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Data Engineer) are highly regarded.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL and hands‑on experience with BigQuery.
• Deep expertise in dbt (data modelling, ELT, testing, CI/CD integration).
• Experience with Airflow, Dataflow, Data Fusion, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub and Vertex AI.
• Strong Python development skills.
• Knowledge of dimensional modelling, data warehousing, Data Mesh and scalable architecture patterns.
