Lawyer – Specialist Advice & Services Division (APS5/6)

About the role
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is seeking a Lawyer to join its Specialist Advice and Services Division (SASD). This position offers the chance to work on high‑impact legal matters affecting consumers and businesses across Australia, within a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice on the ACCC’s powers under legislation such as the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, Telecommunications Act 1997, Digital ID Act 2024 and Water Act 2007.
- Draft, review and settle compulsory information notices, undertakings, notifiable instruments and other legal documents.
- Contribute legal input to statutory decisions, including merger assessments, authorisations, exemptions and public inquiry reports.
- Conduct legal and policy research on complex issues and emerging frameworks, such as the new merger regime and scams prevention initiatives.
- Assist senior team members and develop professional relationships across the ACCC to deliver responsive client service.
Required profile
- Qualified legal practitioner with experience relevant to competition, consumer, telecommunications or related regulatory law.
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision, seeking guidance from senior lawyers as needed.
- Strong analytical and research skills applied to complex legal matters.
- Commitment to the ACCC’s values of collaboration, inclusion and wellbeing.
