Laboratory Technician – Morning and Afternoon Shifts

About the role

ALS Environmental is seeking two Laboratory Technicians for its laboratory in Smithfield, NSW. The positions are permanent and full-time, one for the morning shift and one for the afternoon shift; rosters may be Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday. The day-to-day involves extraction procedures, equipment maintenance, consumable management and QA/QC compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct sample extractions and analytical tasks according to ALS Quality Work Instructions, ensuring QA/QC compliance
• Organise daily tasks efficiently and meet set timelines and standards
• Report anomalies in results or samples to the supervisor
• Maintain housekeeping, calibrate and maintain equipment, and perform calculations for analyses
• Manage consumable stock and assist with additional duties
• Use calibrated equipment and follow ALS quality procedures
• Comply with ALS HSE policies, state OHS legislation and the safety manual, and report compliance issues

Required profile

• Tertiary education: a degree or diploma in science, preferably chemistry
• Ability to work autonomously or in a team, and to plan and organise work
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail and good chemical knowledge
• Positive attitude to safety requirements and aptitude on the allocated tests
• Able to stand and move around the lab and lift or carry up to 15 kg
• Citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or able to obtain a valid working visa
