Lab Technician

About the role

IFF is a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients and health & biosciences. The Lab Technician role in Melbourne supports the development of innovative seasonings for snack and bakery applications, working onsite within a creative, solution‑oriented team.

Key responsibilities

• Support Seasoning Flavorists by accurately compounding flavor formulations following established processes and safety requirements.
• Measure powder flow and functionality using specialized testing equipment.
• Prepare and present development samples using appropriate seasoning technologies.
• Handle, weigh, label, and measure raw materials and maintain organized laboratory stock.
• Prepare solutions and samples for sensory and application evaluations while adhering to GMP and safety procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
• 1‑2 years of experience in a food or laboratory environment.
• Strong organizational skills, proactive attitude and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in a diverse setting.
• Commitment to safety, quality, cleanliness and laboratory best practices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Practical mathematical skills for calculations related to formulations, dilutions and sample preparation.
• Operation of laboratory equipment and data collection tools.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards.
• Ability to assess sensory characteristics of flavors through tasting and evaluation.
