Kong API Developer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Kong API Developer to design, develop and support secure, scalable API solutions using Kong API Gateway and Redis. The role will drive API management, integration and performance optimisation across our enterprise platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure and deploy APIs using Kong API Gateway.
• Create custom Kong plugins and comprehensive API management solutions.
• Implement Redis‑based caching, rate limiting, session management and performance optimisation strategies.
• Integrate APIs with enterprise applications and third‑party services.
• Monitor API performance, troubleshoot issues and ensure platform reliability.
• Apply API security best practices such as OAuth, JWT, mTLS and Zero Trust Architecture.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable and secure integration solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation, standards and deployment processes.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Kong API Gateway and custom plugin development.
• Proven expertise in Redis for caching, session management and data storage.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and development.
• Experience with programming languages such as Lua, Go, Python or Node.js.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, API security, authentication and authorization.
• Familiarity with Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field (preferred).
