Internal Audit Capability Lead - Stores

About the role

Woolworths Group is looking for an Internal Audit Capability Lead for its Stores function. You will lead a team of auditors evaluating and improving operational controls across a network of over 1,200 stores and distribution centres in Australia and New Zealand. The role suits someone who enjoys challenging the status quo, using modern audit technologies and working with senior stakeholders to deliver high-impact insights. Locations open to Sydney, Queensland or Melbourne.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and run continuous improvement, quality assurance and execution of Material Risk store audit reviews across the Woolworths Group network.
• Produce high-quality reporting and quarterly updates for Executive teams and Board committees on key thematic risks and control insights.
• Drive adoption of innovative tools and technologies, including AI testing of controls and automated audit systems.
• Build trusted relationships with senior operational stakeholders to influence remediation and strengthen the control environment.
• Lead, coach and mentor a team of seven Internal Auditors.
• Oversee and improve the Group-wide Distribution Centre site audit program with Primary Connect and operational risk teams.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in auditing, preferably in a large, complex retail or FMCG environment.
• Deep knowledge of retail operational controls, business risk management and internal audit standards (IPPF/IIA).
• Leadership track record of coaching, managing performance and developing audit teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and strong commercial acumen and critical thinking.
