Intermediate Designer

About the role

AKQA, a creative agency within WPP, is looking for an Intermediate Designer to craft high-quality design across print, digital and campaign work. Working closely with the Design Lead, Designers, Art Directors and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will turn creative direction into brand-led work that is both beautiful and effective. The role is hands-on and generalist, covering small projects end to end and contributing ideas to larger campaigns, with room to grow toward a Senior Designer role.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver high-quality work across print, digital and campaign, translating creative direction into polished, on-brand outputs.
• Own design tasks and smaller projects from concept through to final artwork and production-ready files.
• Apply strong typography, layout and attention to detail, and work accurately within design systems and brand guidelines.
• Collaborate with Art Directors, Strategists, Technologists, Copywriters and Delivery teams, and present design work clearly in internal reviews.
• Manage multiple tasks and deadlines, communicate blockers early, and support client presentations, reviews and workshops.
• Explore emerging technologies and AI-enabled tools, and contribute to new business pitches, case studies and portfolio pieces.
• Share knowledge with the wider team and take ownership of your development toward a Senior Designer role.

Required profile

• Solid experience as a designer in an agency or studio, with a portfolio spanning print, digital and campaign work.
• Strong design craft, typographic sensibility and a keen eye for layout, detail and consistency.
• Confident working within design systems and brand guidelines, with experience preparing production-ready artwork for print and digital.
• Collaborative, open to feedback, clear communicator and organised enough to meet agreed deadlines.
• Openness to AI-enabled tools and new ways of working.

Required skills

• Proficiency in industry-standard design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
