Integrated Communications Lead

About the role

The Integrated Communications Lead manages the Department’s response to complex proactive and reactive media issues, identifies and mitigates risk, and safeguards the department’s reputation. Working closely with the Director of Public Affairs and Heads of Media, the role develops mitigation strategies aligned with the department’s strategic narrative and provides high‑level advice to senior executives and ministerial offices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the response to complex and sensitive media issues across the department.
• Identify emerging issues and risks through proactive engagement with portfolio areas.
• Develop and implement mitigation strategies that align with the department’s strategic narrative.
• Provide high‑level strategic advice to senior executives and ministerial offices.
• Lead and mentor a team of strategic communications professionals.
• Operate at a managerial level in high‑profile, issues‑rich environments.

Required profile

• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant government legislation and experience in a government media role, or senior experience as a journalist.
• Experience in health and/or mental‑health portfolios is advantageous.
• Proven ability to identify and manage media issues in public affairs or communications.
• Strong understanding of public‑sector and government operations.
• Experience leading a team of strategic communications professionals.
• Track record of operating at a senior managerial level in high‑visibility environments.
