Indigenous Communications Manager

About the role

The Indigenous Communications Manager will lead strategic communications for Indigenous science and engagement across CSIRO. This role amplifies Indigenous voices, builds partnerships, and shapes culturally informed campaigns to enhance CSIRO’s reputation and impact.

Key responsibilities

• Lead communication, engagement and marketing strategies that strengthen understanding of Indigenous science and engagement.
• Provide trusted strategic advice on complex, sensitive and high‑profile communication issues.
• Oversee culturally informed campaigns, storytelling and engagement activities that build trust, visibility and reputation.
• Lead and develop a small team while collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, internal leaders and external partners.
• Work closely with the Indigenous Science & Engagement Office and Communication Unit to deliver priority initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic communications, preferably within Indigenous or scientific contexts.
• Strong cultural grounding and ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Demonstrated capability in reputation management and stakeholder engagement.
• Leadership experience managing small teams and delivering cross‑functional projects.

• Salary range AU$135,571 – AU$158,863 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.
