ICT Systems Administrator – APS 6 (Defence)

About the role

The APS 6 ICT Systems Administrator provides complex systems administration services for Defence, ensuring hardware and software are installed, maintained and optimised in line with policies and operational requirements. The role requires a high degree of autonomy, technical expertise and the ability to resolve issues, manage change and sustain ICT service continuity.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advanced ICT systems administration services, including installation, maintenance and optimisation of hardware and software.
• Resolve technical issues, manage change and ensure continuity of ICT services.
• Contribute to projects, strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Engage with stakeholders, coach team members and set priorities to manage workflows effectively.
• Communicate and collaborate across dynamic Defence environments to deliver solutions that meet organisational outcomes.

Required profile

• Strong technical expertise in systems administration with sound judgement and initiative.
• Proven experience managing ICT systems within government or Defence contexts, including knowledge of relevant policies and legislative frameworks.
• Leadership capability, including coaching staff, setting priorities and managing workflows.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Collaborative mindset, adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning.

• Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification.
• Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator certification.
• SQL Server knowledge.
• SaaS experience.
• CompTIA Security+ certification.
• ITIL Foundation certification.
