Hotel Accountant

About the role

The ibis Styles Brisbane Elizabeth Street hotel, located in the Brisbane CBD with views over the river to Southbank, is looking for a full-time Hotel Accountant. The role was created through an internal promotion and reports directly to the Financial Controller, with support from a Senior Finance Officer. Because of the hotel's unique composition, the position is heavily operationally involved.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities across the hotel
• Process and oversee accounts payable
• Manage the fortnightly payroll and chair payroll meetings
• Complete bank, balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
• Prepare daily and monthly financial reports
• Monitor outstanding accounts and support credit control
• Prepare and post month-end journals and assist with month-end close and reporting
• Assist the Financial Controller with budget preparation and audit requests
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards, Accor policies and internal controls
• Partner with Department Managers to improve departmental and hotel profitability, and improve accounting processes and efficiencies

Required profile

• Qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• Previous experience in an accounting or finance role
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships across the hotel
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Proactive attitude and interest in a career in finance
• Full Australian working rights; the role is not available for sponsorship
• Previous hotel or hospitality finance experience preferred

Required skills

• Advanced Excel skills and confidence with financial systems
• Experience with Opera Cloud, Zambion, PurchasePlus, Micros Symphony or SunSystems Cloud preferred
