Head of Strategy & Operations

About the role

The Head of Strategy & Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for the Office of the Vice‑President Engagement, supporting the broader Engagement Portfolio at RMIT.

Key responsibilities

• Act as principal strategic adviser to the Vice‑President Engagement, delivering high‑level advice and insights.
• Lead complex strategic projects and cross‑functional initiatives, managing risks, budgets and delivery outcomes.
• Oversee the Office, fostering a collaborative, service‑focused culture.
• Manage portfolio planning, governance, performance, risk and reporting aligned with strategic priorities.
• Support financial and resource management, including budgeting and monitoring.

Required profile

• Prior tertiary engagement experience across alumni, philanthropy, industry engagement, marketing, communications or student recruitment.
• Experience as a Chief of Staff or senior trusted advisor within a complex tertiary institution.
• Proven leadership and stakeholder management with ability to build high‑performing teams.
• Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives in fast‑changing environments.
• Relevant postgraduate degree (e.g., public policy, MBA) or equivalent experience.
