Head of Sales - Building Materials
Employeur non precise · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
A newly created, permanent Head of Sales position in a large, privately owned national building materials business, with a national footprint of trade, manufacturing and distribution sites. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead sales across the southern region, a region of around $300 million turnover. The business has decided that the next phase of growth will be driven by sales, and the role is a leadership one focused on building capability, systems and culture.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a loyal, relationship-strong team into a disciplined, proactive sales engine that wins larger projects, converts more quoted work and sells the full breadth of the offer.
- Assess every salesperson, coach those who can grow, and build a new-business tier targeting larger builders and projects.
- Set up territory and coverage plans, a visible pipeline, quote follow-up and conversion tracking, and a consistent weekly and monthly cadence across branches.
- Drive adoption of the existing Salesforce platform so leaders use it in every conversation.
- Grow share with volume and larger builders and expand multi-category sales in a competitive residential market.
- Lead change across branches, estimating, operations and retail, bringing long-serving leaders with you.
- Set the plan, report progress monthly to the CEO and help shape the structure of the role.
Required profile
- Current Head of Sales, General Manager Sales, Sales Director or senior National Sales Manager leading sales managers and field teams across multiple branches, territories or states.
- Proven track record of moving a team from account management to proactive new-business selling.
- Experience building a structured sales management program and driving CRM adoption in a reluctant team (Salesforce ideal).
- Accountability for revenue in the $100m-$500m range, with growth in a flat or tough market.
- B2B sales leadership with trade, contractor or builder customers through a branch or field network; building materials experience is valued but not essential, other industrial B2B experience highly regarded.
- Confidence to address underperformance and care to develop and keep good people.
- Hands-on style suited to a private, values-led business, with regular travel across the southern network.
- Melbourne preferred; Sydney and regional Victoria or New South Wales considered.
What we offer
- Salary of $250,000-$300,000 per annum with an annual STI.
- A direct line to the CEO and a clear mandate to change how the region sells.
- The scale of a $300m P&L within a private business.
The search is managed confidentially by the recruiter, Six Degrees Executive. Applications are made through the recruiter, who handles enquiries discreetly.
