Head of Finance (6‑9 month contract)

About the role

The firm is seeking an experienced finance leader to provide continuity and stability during a 6‑to‑9‑month parental leave period. Reporting to the Managing Partner and COO, you will deliver strategic financial guidance while overseeing day‑to‑day finance operations in a high‑performing law firm.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial advice to the Board, Managing Partner, Finance Committee and COO.
• Lead financial planning cycles, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and corporate governance requirements.
• Manage cash flow, investment strategies and profitability initiatives.
• Oversee all accounting operations including billing, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and general ledger.
• Maintain robust financial systems, controls and risk‑management frameworks.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and banking partners.
• Lead, mentor and develop the Finance team.

Required profile

• Senior finance leader with strong commercial judgement and ability to influence at Board and Partner level.
• CA/CPA (or equivalent) qualification.
• Proven senior financial management experience in a law firm or professional services environment, preferably in Australia.
• Deep knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulatory compliance.
• High levels of discretion, integrity and professional maturity.
