Head of Department – Student Services (0.5 FTE)

About the role

The Queensland Department of Education is seeking a passionate leader to serve as Head of Department – Student Services (also known as Head of Year) at The Gap State High School. This part‑time, temporary position (0.5 FTE) focuses on student wellbeing, attendance, and engagement across the Wellbeing Hub teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead case‑management and tiered student support initiatives in line with the Wellbeing Framework.
• Coordinate attendance monitoring, engagement strategies and school‑wide consistent practices.
• Collaborate with school leaders, staff, families and external agencies to strengthen support systems.
• Prepare data returns for the Principal as required.
• Design and deliver induction activities for new arrivals and advise on their academic, social and emotional needs.
• Monitor individual student performance and behaviour, developing and implementing targeted interventions.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing and inclusive education.
• Experience working with diverse student populations, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to analyse data and produce clear reports for senior leadership.
