Head of Department – Psychology (Academic Leadership)

About the role

The Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors (AIPC) is seeking an experienced academic leader to head its new Bachelor of Psychology programme. This senior position will shape curriculum, ensure accreditation compliance, and drive continuous improvement across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Bachelor of Psychology programme to meet APAC, HESF and industry standards.
• Oversee accreditation, curriculum review, quality assurance and continuous improvement processes.
• Provide academic leadership that supports high‑quality teaching, assessment and student outcomes.
• Embed ethical, evidence‑based, culturally responsive and inclusive practices throughout the curriculum.
• Contribute to academic governance and engage with industry and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• PhD in Psychology or a closely‑aligned discipline.
• Proven academic leadership experience at Academic Level C or above.
• Extensive experience in higher‑education teaching, curriculum development, assessment and quality assurance.
• Strong knowledge of APAC accreditation, academic governance and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead academic staff, support student outcomes and engage stakeholders.
• Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia or eligibility for registration is desirable.
