Head of Accounting

About the role

POP & Co is an established outsourcing business based in Hawthorn, Australia, offering services from maccounting to digital marketing for small to medium businesses and high net worth individuals. It is looking for someone to lead and manage its offshore accounting function, overseeing people, processes and performance delivery so that Australian accounting activities are accurate, compliant and continuously improving.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day Australian accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll and reconciliations
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports such as P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
• Review BAS/IAS, payroll tax and compliance reports before finalization
• Ensure audit readiness and support internal and external audits
• Lead, manage and mentor the offshore accounting team, conduct performance reviews and development planning
• Build accountability and ownership, identify skill gaps and run training and upskilling initiatives
• Manage team capacity, workload distribution and resource planning
• Improve processes and automate where possible, standardize workflows, documentation and procedures
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies

Required profile

• MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification
• Full or partial qualification in CIMA, ACCA or CPA
• 4-5 years of accounting experience, ideally in a managerial position with exposure to Australian accounts
• Client-facing experience and strong written and verbal communication
• Ability to work accurately under deadlines and manage multiple priorities
• Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset and tech-savviness with online platforms
• Strong team leadership and people management skills
