Guest Experience Officer / Host / Maitre D - Opera Bar

About the role

Opera Bar is reopening in October 2026 and is building its team for a summer on Sydney Harbour. The Guest Experience Officer is an all-rounder who moves through the venue, chats with guests, helps people find what they need and makes sure everyone has an amazing experience. The role is described as different from a typical hospitality position.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome guests and create a brilliant first impression
• Chat with locals, tourists and visitors from all over the world
• Take food and drink orders directly from the floor using crew phones
• Upsell and recommend food and drinks in a genuine, natural way
• Help guests navigate the venue and answer questions
• Spot opportunities to improve each guest's experience
• Support the wider floor, bar and service teams wherever needed
• Bring energy and a positive attitude to every shift

Required profile

• Experience in hospitality, tourism, hotels, events, retail or customer service is great
• Loves talking to people and is confident approaching guests
• Great energy and a naturally warm personality
• Comfortable recommending and upselling food and drinks
• Can think on their feet and solve problems
• Enjoys working in a busy team and staying positive during high-volume service
• Current NSW RSA
