Group Financial Controller (Temp-to-Perm)
Robert Half · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
An agile, multi-entity private investment and operating group is seeking an accomplished, hands-on Group Financial Controller for an initial 6-month temp-to-perm engagement, based on-site in Melbourne CBD. The group is expanding rapidly through an aggressive inorganic growth strategy, operating across high-volume service entities and an international high-growth SaaS business. The finance team needs a commercial, systems-savvy controller to lead integration efforts, streamline group reporting and embed scalable financial governance. You report directly to the executive leadership team and will manage three direct reports within a wider team of 15, with immediate focus on post-acquisition finance integration, harmonising multi-entity ledgers and building automated reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Lead operational finance onboarding of newly acquired trading entities, migrate charts of accounts, align reporting standards and standardise month-end closes.
- Clean and consolidate data from multiple legacy platforms and build dynamic Excel models to extract operational and financial metrics.
- Deliver board-level monthly management accounts, group consolidated P&L, balance sheets and cash flow forecasts across subsidiaries and offshore technology assets.
- Maintain financial control and compliance across trading arms, fiduciary/family trust structures and an international digital subscription entity.
- Evaluate legacy finance workflows, remove bottlenecks and implement SOPs for a fast-scaling platform.
- Coach, develop and supervise a team of 15.
Required profile
- Professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA, ACCA or ACA (or equivalent).
- Proven track record in PE-backed platforms, high-growth mid-market or acquisitive roll-up groups.
- Hands-on experience running post-merger finance integrations, chart-of-accounts standardisation and system cutovers.
- Experience with multi-currency reporting, cross-border entities and private trusts is strongly advantageous.
- Proactive, autonomous and comfortable working amid ambiguity and organisational growth.
Required skills
- Advanced Excel (complex lookups, nested logic, multi-source data modelling); Power Query preferred.
- Ability to reconcile messy multi-system data feeds.
What we offer
- Immediate start with a clear, performance-based conversion to a permanent executive position.
- Exposure to deal activity, corporate restructuring and global entity management.
- High degree of autonomy to set your own reporting rhythms, tools and frameworks.
Applicants apply through the recruiter with an up-to-date CV in Microsoft Word format.
