Group Financial Controller

About the role

The Group Financial Controller will lead the finance function for a privately owned investment group, reporting directly to the CEO. This hands‑on leadership position oversees a small team and is responsible for all accounting, reporting, tax and compliance matters across a diverse portfolio of private assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end accounting operations, management accounts and compliance reporting.
• Manage group liquidity, cash‑flow forecasting and capital‑call funding requirements.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly performance packs covering investment portfolio, group spending and private asset funding.
• Oversee tax compliance, year‑end tax workpapers, structuring recommendations and BAS/FBT lodgements.
• Supervise investment accounting and monitor finance facilities, covenant compliance and interest notices.
• Review payroll and related lodgments (IAS, payroll tax, superannuation, STP, income statements).
• Maintain strong internal controls, policies and procedures suited to a complex private group.
• Drive continuous improvement of systems, processes and reporting.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification.
• Approximately 10+ years of finance and management accounting experience, preferably in a private investment or commercial environment.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and Australian tax expertise.
• Self‑sufficient operator with commercial acumen and high emotional intelligence.
• Proactive, organised, adaptable and able to influence relationships at all levels.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high degree of confidentiality.
