Grounds Maintenance Operator

About the role

Service Stream is hiring multiple permanent full-time Grounds Maintenance Operators for its Property and Asset Services contract with the Australian Department of Defence, based at Robertson Barracks in the Northern Territory. The role covers a wide range of manual and machinery-assisted tasks in physically demanding outdoor environments, supporting construction, agricultural and infrastructure projects. There are also positions focused on land management duties such as weeding, spraying and mowing.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and clear land for construction, agriculture or infrastructure projects.
• Operate plant and construction machinery safely and efficiently.
• Load, transport and handle materials and equipment.
• Perform manual labour including digging, lifting and trenching.
• Support tradespeople and crews with general site tasks.
• Check equipment, report faults or hazards, and identify utility lines and manage soil conditions.
• Set up and clean work areas, take part in toolbox talks and help build a safe work culture.

Required profile

• Australian citizen able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
• Ability to lift, dig, bend and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Punctual, dependable and able to complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Relevant licences, white card and first aid are highly regarded.

Required skills

• Safe operation of mowers, blowers, compactors and other landscaping equipment.
• Familiarity with OH&S procedures and use of PPE.
• Assisting with fencing, paving, retaining walls and irrigation systems.
