About the role
Ochre Health is seeking a General Practitioner Visiting Medical Officer (GP VMO) to join its award‑winning team on Flinders Island, Tasmania. The position is available either as a Vocationally Registered (VR) GP VMO or as a non‑VR doctor eligible for the newly approved Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) Targeted Recruitment pathway. This role offers a fully funded, government‑backed training experience in a supportive rural environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary care to the island community, including preventive, chronic disease, and acute care.
- Deliver emergency and urgent care services as part of a fully supported MMM7 environment.
- Participate in on‑call VMO duties, contributing to the on‑call earnings pool.
- Utilise bulk‑billing and universal health coverage systems to ensure accessible care.
- Engage with community health initiatives and collaborate with local health professionals.
Required profile
- Qualified General Practitioner, either VR‑registered or eligible for the RVTS training pathway.
- Commitment to rural practice and a desire to build long‑term relationships with a close‑knit community.
- Willingness to undertake a combination of remote and face‑to‑face training under experienced supervisors.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high clinical standards.
Required skills
- Strong clinical competence in general practice and emergency medicine.
- Proficiency with practice management and electronic medical record systems.
- Effective communication skills for patient education and community engagement.
