General Social Worker (Part-Time)

About the role

Hunter New England Health is recruiting a Generalist Social Worker (Level 1/2) for Armidale Hospital on a temporary part-time basis until February 2028, at 20 hours per week. The role is shared with another Social Worker so that both cover the wards full time. Working mainly on the Medical and Surgical wards, you will work with multidisciplinary teams to give person-centred care, advocate for patients and help them get discharged safely and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out psychosocial assessments and identify patients' support needs
• Help plan safe, timely discharge and coordinate care
• Advocate for patients and liaise with external services such as the NDIS, aged care and guardianship services
• Work with medical, nursing, allied health and Aboriginal Health colleagues to deliver holistic care
• Help patients and families connect with community resources
• Contribute to clinical problem-solving and risk management

Required profile

• Bachelor degree in social work (eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers) or an equivalent qualification
• Current NSW driver's licence
• Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency or New Zealand citizenship; temporary visa holders may be considered only if no suitable local candidate is found
• Previous acute hospital social work experience is not essential
