About the role

The General Medicine Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings at John Hunter Hospital. This role supports coordinated care throughout the Hunter New England Health network and contributes to innovative, safe, and efficient service models.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical care for a broad range of general medical conditions.
• Manage a diverse case‑mix across inpatient and outpatient services.
• Coordinate care pathways with community and regional health services.
• Promote and implement safe, efficient, and innovative models of care.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a progressive environment.

Required profile

• Primary medical degree with current AHPRA registration.
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) – General Medicine.
• Recent, comprehensive clinical experience in General Medicine.
• Experience or strong understanding of service improvement and models of care delivery.
• Commitment to clinical excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
