Fire Protection Engineer

About the role

The Fire Protection Engineer will support Fluence’s global battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio by integrating fire protection, code compliance, permitting and safety requirements into product development and project delivery across Australia and the APAC region.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret fire code requirements and develop compliant product designs, permitting strategies and technical solutions.
• Assess fire protection risks, resolve technical issues, and support root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain code‑compliance documentation, including matrices and design responses.
• Deliver fire protection training to internal teams, customers and emergency responders.
• Support permitting reviews, code negotiations, customer inquiries and cross‑functional engineering activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in fire protection engineering, system design, code compliance and permitting.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage complex technical projects and travel 30‑50% to project sites.
• Experience supporting large‑scale fire, explosion or battery testing programs.

Required skills

• Fire code interpretation and compliance.
• CFD fire modeling.
• Fire protection system design and permitting.
• Knowledge of BESS fire protection standards and international certifications.
• Stakeholder management with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
