Fire Assay Technician

About the role

ALS is seeking a Fire Assay Technician for its metallurgical services business in Balcatta, joining a busy mineral testing laboratory that aims to deliver quality results on time and maintain strong client relationships. You will report to the Area Supervisor and perform fire assay procedures safely and effectively. This is not a FIFO mine site position.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of the fire assay process, including weighing, fluxing, pouring, de-slagging, cupellation and prilling.
• Conduct wet chemistry digestions of prills, including aqua regia and amalgam methods.
• Perform scorification.
• Support the Area Supervisor and Team Leaders with sample preparation procedures.
• Follow procedures to complete test work to a high safety standard.
• Maintain accurate records, including capturing and processing control samples.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar laboratory or mine site role is highly regarded; training is provided for successful applicants with no prior experience.
• Good communication, organisational and time management skills, strong attention to detail and high motivation.
• Ability to undertake shift work, including day, afternoon and occasional night shifts, and to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.
• Good literacy, numeracy and computer skills.
• Alignment with ALS' core values and culture.
• Eligible to work at ALS: citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or holds or can obtain a valid working visa.

The role is casual, up to 75 hours per fortnight, with the possibility of permanent employment after a period of service. Applications are made online with a resume and cover letter.
