Maintenance Tradesperson

About the role

ALS is seeking a skilled and versatile Maintenance Tradesperson for its metallurgy site in Balcatta. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, within a small, close-knit site maintenance team. The role covers general site handyman work through to minor fabrication and repairs, and suits a fabrication-based tradesperson who enjoys variety.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks, from general handyman work to minor fabrication and structural repairs.
• Perform welding, cutting, grinding and fabrication work to maintain and modify site infrastructure and equipment.
• Maintain, repair and support the operation of metallurgical test work equipment.
• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and infrastructure.
• Identify maintenance issues and contribute to continuous improvement of site reliability and safety.
• Collaborate with the maintenance team and other departments to minimise disruption to operations.
• Support shutdown and project work as required.
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety, environmental and quality standards, and keep accurate records of maintenance activities.

Required profile

• Trade qualification in a fabrication-based discipline such as Boilermaking, Welding or Fitting (Certificate III or equivalent).
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in a maintenance role in an industrial, processing or similar environment.
• Experience maintaining or supporting specialised process or test work equipment is advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and technical documentation.
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizen or permanent resident, or holder of a valid working visa).

Required skills

• Competence in welding and fabrication, including minor structural and equipment repairs.
• Comfortable with a broad range of tasks from general handyman duties to skilled trade work.
• Strong commitment to workplace health, safety and quality standards.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, self-motivated and able to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
