Financial Controller

About the role

Rural Aid is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join its national support team in Indooroopilly. Reporting to the CFO, you will lead financial control processes, support fundraising and service delivery teams, and help drive the organisation’s impact across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain robust financial controls for month‑end reporting, budgeting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, statutory and management accounting.
• Collaborate with programme and field teams on planning, donation management, budgeting and service‑delivery reporting.
• Perform general accounting duties and ensure accuracy of financial transaction recording.
• Support the finance team in reporting on social impact and regional activities.

Required profile

• 5+ years experience in a similar senior finance role, preferably within a not‑for‑profit or charity environment.
• Passion for supporting Australian primary producers and understanding of the agriculture sector.
• Demonstrated ability to partner with managers to provide financial guidance and build capability.
• Interest or experience in social impact measurement, sustainability or regional development reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience using Xero accounting software and implementing finance systems.
• Knowledge of CRM software for client record management.
• Familiarity with modern fundraising platforms such as Raisley and corporate partnership tracking.
