Financial Accountant – Retail (6 Month Contract)

About the role

Robert Half is recruiting a Financial Accountant for a 6-month contract with a well-known retail business in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key part in the monthly reporting cycle and support the wider finance team in a fast-paced retail environment. The role is hands-on, with a focus on keeping the books accurate and meeting tight reporting deadlines. It is a hybrid position with an immediate start, and candidates available at short notice are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close process and meet reporting deadlines
• Prepare monthly and ad-hoc journals and keep the general ledger accurate
• Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances
• Produce month-end reporting and commentary for senior stakeholders
• Support the external audit process
• Find and implement improvements to finance processes
• Contribute to ad-hoc projects across the finance function

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified, or close to completion
• Prior retail experience is essential
• Strong month-end and balance sheet reconciliation experience
• Confident working with stakeholders at all levels
• High attention to detail and comfortable working to tight deadlines
• Available to start at short notice
