Finance Lead

About the role

West Coast Council is seeking an experienced Finance Lead to join its Community and Corporate Services team, reporting to the Manager Finance. The role coordinates the council's day-to-day finance functions, supports financial management and leads improvements to systems, processes and reporting. It sits in the Finance department of the Directorate Community & Corporate Services, is classified as Band 6, and involves supervising staff, consultants and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the delivery of the finance function, including the use of finance software by staff, and develop improvements to its effective delivery
• Manage financial reporting, month-end processes and revenue controls, including contract management
• Monitor, manage and report on council debt
• Ensure procurement complies with the Procurement and Code of Tenders and Contracts Policy, and use the council's ordering system for invoices
• Research and develop financial policies, procedures and internal controls in line with legislation and council policy
• Provide assistance with administrative, financial services and auditing as required
• Lead continuous improvement of systems, processes and outputs

Required profile

• Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
• Experience in finance in a complex working environment (essential)
• Experience managing complex work and motivating teams
• Experience in the tourism industry or a high-level customer-focused role is essential
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and support a collaborative team
