Finance Director – Recruitment & Equipment Hire

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Director to lead the finance function of a national recruitment and equipment hire business. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will own financial operations, risk management and commercial planning, driving scalable growth in a high‑volume environment.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the executive team to shape long‑term strategy, capital allocation and growth initiatives.
• Lead short‑ and long‑term cash‑flow forecasting to support weekly payroll cycles and manage debtor facilities.
• Collaborate with business development to evaluate contract pricing, client margins and structure profitable deals.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end closing, budgeting, rolling forecasts and board reporting.
• Ensure compliance with Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Superannuation, Payroll Tax and Single Touch Payroll.
• Manage internal controls, audit processes, corporate risk and statutory insurances, including workers’ compensation.
• Build, mentor and lead a high‑performing finance and payroll team.
• Direct financial planning and inventory control for rental machinery and safety equipment.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification with a degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Proven experience as a Finance Director, CFO or Head of Finance, preferably in recruitment, labour or fast‑paced outsourced services.
• Background in a Big 4 or mid‑tier chartered accounting firm is highly regarded.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of margin protection and working‑capital optimisation.
